Sumatera Selatan still faces the problem of Open Defecation. The province has 7.942.000 population, of which 766,843 are children, but only 51.66% of its population has access to improved sanitation.
16.6% has no access to a toilet at all. School toilet facilities regarded as being in good condition only reach 24.90%.
The effect of poor sanitation contributes to the death of children in Sumatera Selatan up to 29 per 1,000 child birth and diarrhea incidence rate of 1.30% in children. Poor sanitation in Sumatera Selatan also contributes to a stunting rate of 36.7% in children.
